About Gillian:
Gillian supports clients using an eclectic perspective and evidence-based approaches to care. Holding a strong belief that everyone has the capacity to heal from the past, learn new skills to help us in our daily lives and to build a hopeful, happy life, Gillian engages in a relational and strengths based approach. She is passionate about supporting individuals with many life issues including depression, anxiety, addictions, fears, and uncertainty, helping them to become unstuck from old patterns and engage more positively and productively in their lives. Drawing also from personal experiences of grief, loss, family addictions and mental health, she meets her clients from an empathetic and compassionate place of learning, healing and growth. Gillian works from a philosophy that includes elements of spirituality, mindfulness, 12-step groups, art, culture, film and literature. (Ask her about her love of horror movies and crafting).
Gillian obtained a Bachelor of Social Work from University of Waterloo in 2014 and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Windsor in 2024. Previously, Gillian also completed an Arts Degree in English and Women’s studies at York University in Toronto. As a lifelong learner and curious human she continues her training, to date having completed advanced certification inCognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Addictions, with additional post-degree training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing and Polyvagal Theory. Gillian has 10 + years of experience supporting individuals with addiction and mental health challenges as well as background in outreach, community health care, and live-in addiction treatment settings.
