Heather Jackson

M.S.W., R.S.W

Working from a strengths-based and anti-oppressive framework, Heather offers a compassionate therapeutic response to any experience you may bring forward. Heather is keenly aware that life leaves an imprint on us all and at times throws unexpected curve balls. We find ourselves in these challenging spaces between the familiar and the unknown, ‘what was’ and ‘what is to be’. These transitional periods are often referred to as liminal spaces. Heather understands that in life’s liminal spaces, uncertainty is high. In these circumstances we often find we are out of our manageable comfort zone and as such feel stuck, anxious or stressed. Within the context of a non-judgmental, trusting therapeutic relationship, Heather supports and engages her clients in cultivating alternative perspectives, developing coping strategies, and gaining ground in feeling better through some of life’s hardest times. Heather believes that therapeutic inquiry promotes self-discovery and positive change leading to greater overall connectedness and emotional well-being.

Heather obtained an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Development Studies and a Bachelor of Social Work, both from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto. She has over 15 years of experience working with individuals and their care partners in health-related settings that include chronic illness, dementia, end-of-life care, developmental disabilities, and acquired brain injury. Heather has completed her Level One CBT certification and engages in continuing education in the areas of trauma, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Mindfulness-based practices. Heather has several life experiences that inform her practice and ability to engage with her clients in a meaningful manner.
